Who is Basimah Abu Radi?

Basimah Abu Radi was a soul full of joy, happiness, and radiance, one of the brightest personalities in the world of art and culture in Gaza. From the moment she joined the Palestinian Cultural Palace, she carried in her heart a love for art and expression, making Dabke a means to bring joy and happiness to everyone around her.

Her Life and Work

Basimah worked in Dabke at the Palestinian Cultural Palace for eight years (2016–2023). She was an integral part of the artistic teams and cultural events organized by the institution. During these years, Basimah was more than a dancer—she was a source of inspiration and energy for her colleagues, reflecting dedication and passion for art.

Her Artistic Contributions

Basimah participated in many remarkable artistic works that left a lasting impact, including:

  • Operetta “A Time for Peace”, created in 2016, in which children and youth conveyed a message of hope and joy.
  • The Annual Spring of Peace Festival, where she played a central role in folkloric performances, infusing every performance with vitality and enthusiasm.
  • Numerous other Cultural Palace events, where she always brought a wave of positive energy and spiritto everyone watching and participating.

Basimah had the ability to motivate her colleagues and inspire children and participants, making each performance not just a show, but a rich experience filled with soul, art, and human message.

Her Personality and Spirit

Basimah was known for her kind heart, cheerful spirit, and her love for helping others. She carried a message of hope in everything she did and saw art as a way to change the reality around her and bring happiness to those near her.

The Difficult Circumstances and Her Passing

Despite her strength and positive spirit, Basimah suffered from diabetes. During the war, she faced extreme hardships, as she could not receive proper treatment due to shortages of medicine and the lack of adequate healthcare in hospitals operating under wartime conditions.
Under these harsh circumstances, Basimah lost her life, and her passing was a devastating blow to everyone who knew and worked with her.

A Heartbreaking Farewell and Lasting Impact

Her departure left a huge void in the hearts of her colleagues and the cultural community in Gaza. She was more than a dancer; she was a symbol of joy, life, and art amid the hardest conditions.
